Okay, let’s say you have decided you want something custom made, whether it’s furniture or cabinetry. If you haven’t already gone through the design process with an architect, we can help. The challenge is for us to understand what you have in your imagination or mind’s eye and to convert that into the final product. This is usually done in informal meetings with a free exchange of ideas and suggestions. If you have photos, sketches, or magazine pictures, these are extremely helpful in conveying what it is you want your project to look like. We do lots of sketching and talking, until the details of the design begin to come together. Sometimes this can be done in one sitting, but for more complex projects, it may take more than one or two meetings. Usually at least one meeting takes place on site, and may include interior designers, plumbers, electricians, and contractors—whatever it takes to get your ideas on paper. Once we have a pretty good idea of what you want, we can give you an estimate, which is usually a price range. Then, if you are satisfied with the estimate, we move on to detailed shop drawings, from which we can give you a firm price. Even at this stage, you can feel free to make all the changes you want, because we are still just working with paper and pencil. Initial meetings and perhaps a quick site visit (if it’s not too far away) are done at no obligation to you. You can visit our shop, meet the two Labrador retrievers, and get an idea of the quality of work that we do. There is a design and drawing fee which is usually an hourly rate. Once the design is finalized, if you decide you want us to do the work, we execute a simple contract agreement and get started. The design fee will be credited toward the price of the project. We strive to make the entire process enjoyable and stress free. Our focus is on giving you exactly what you want, and delivering a very high quality product on time. We develop a close working relationship with our customers, and many clients are now good friends. We hope you become one, too! |
